On a recent trip to Alaska, we were lucky enough to have a clear day when viewing Denali, formerly Mt. McKinley.  It was in early September, when the native wildflower, Fireweed was in bloom. This lovely plant's berries are even used to make a delicious ice cream!

The foothills surrounding the mountain are beautiful...and somewhat of a challenge to paint!  Pastels are a wonderful medium to capture the depth of these hills.  Many layers were added.  We were so fortunate to have had a clear view of this historic mountain. Many travel to Alaska and never see Denali!
